An example of how flipped classroom methodology is used to learn one whole topic

Subject: Russian
Topic: Countries and languages
Grammar: Родительный падеж (Откуда? Kust kohast?), Предложный падеж (Где? Говорить/Писать на каком языке?), prefixes and ending of the nouns.
Grade: 7th grade (13 years old)
Duration: 4 lessons (4x 45 minutes)

 The following is the overview of each lesson and tasks.

The whole topic started with the homework. Students had to remind themselves the names of the countries they learnt in the 6th grade.  They needed to watch the study video about European countries https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbDUGoAg2kg

Based on the video, students wrote down in the notebook the names of the neighbouring countries of Estonia and names of the countries they had visited.

1st lesson – advanced language group had the lesson in the computer class, the regular class in the classroom

The task: Students were divided into groups and they had to name the countries they remembered from the video seen at home. During the task the 1st and the 4th column of the table were filled in.

After that the video was seen in EdPuzzle https://edpuzzle.com/assignments/57e12ed738b4e2f7789f49e3/watch and questions based on the movie were answered in which is one method of flipping the task.

2nd lesson

The second lesson started with checking the answers of the homework.

The 2nd and the 3rd column of the table was filled.

At the end of the lesson, the students picked a paper with the name of the country and they had to introduce themselves thinking of a new name that is used in the country, saying where they are from and where they live.

Homework: memorise the 4 columns from the table.

3rd lesson – in the computer class

Revision. Name the languages that have been learnt. Filling in the last column of the table. The use and writing of the verbs ГОВОРИТЬ/ПИСАТЬ (speak/write).
